  • Purchase your season ticket for 2011/12

Now that the current season has ended it is time to consider renewing your season ticket, or purchasing a season ticket for the 2011/12 season.

The past season has been tremendously successful with the Club winning the 1st Division of the Toolstation Western League and now being promoted to the Premier Division.

Without the help of our supporters this would have proven very difficult. The efforts of the last season both on and off the field has been very rewarding for all those concerned, and so that the Club does not stand still we must now plan for the future.

We are sure that al supporters will want to be associated with these plans as they have been in the past.

Thanks to the generosity of our main sponsor season ticket holders will be able to pay reduced prices for some drinks purchased in the Candac Suite during next season.

We hope that you are able to take out a Season Ticket to assist us in our aims. If you do intend to purchase a season ticket would you please complete the attached Season Ticket Application Form together with the Standing Order Form should you wish to pay by standing order, and return them both to Meurig Price at 1 Nant Morlais, Pant, Merthyr Tydfil, CF48 2AW.

The club wishes to thank you for your continued support.

  • Wrexham down and all but out

Luton Town placed one foot in the Blue Square Bet Premier play-off final after a commanding away win in the first leg of their semi-final against Wrexham.
Alex Lawless struck first with a superb 35-yard low shot after striding forward unchallenged from the halfway line.
Claude Gnakpa smashed a second into the top corner from an acute angle, while Jake Howells hit the crossbar.
The third Hatters goal also came before half-time when Ed Asafu-Adjaye was unmarked on the far side from a corner.
Wrexham improved after the break but struggled to create shooting chances and it was not until the 81st minute that Curtis Obeng tested Luton goalkeeper Mark Tyler.
The night could have been worse for the Dragons had it not been for Chris Maxwell, who denied Keith Keane when the midfielder was through one-on-one with the Wrexham keeper and later pulled off a point-blank save to deflect defender Zdenek Kroca’s shot onto the post.
Thursday night’s reverse at the Racecourse Ground leaves Wrexham facing a huge task in next Tuesday’s second leg at Kenilworth Road, where Luton have lost just twice this season.
The second semi-final between AFC Wimbledon and Fleetwood Town gets underway on Friday night, with the prize a place in the play-off final at Manchester City’s Eastlands Stadium on 21 May.

  • Shephard already planning Merthyr’s Premier campaign

MANAGER Garry Shephard is well ahead in his planning for Merthyr Town’s life back at Penydarren Park.
The newly-promoted Martyrs are preparing for Premier Division football next season, having powered to the Western League title. Also, we provide you with the right source to bet on a specific football team to win the match, lose, or draw. At bester wettanbieter bonus blog, you will find the best betting sites with competitive odds and other bonus details.
“We have already signed 90 per cent of the players again for 2011-12,” says Shephard.
“There are one or two loose ends to be tied up with certain individuals, while we are also looking to add players and strengthen the squad overall.
“The players have done a fantastic job in winning the First Division and now we are aiming for back-to-back promotions.
“It’s going to be a lot tougher in the Premier Division, but we have a quality squad capable of taking Merthyr Town up again.”
Merthyr finished their season with an unbeaten 12-match run, 11 wins and then a 2-2 draw in their last fixture against Bridport
“We are champions, but I was disappointed with performances in our last three matches,” said Shephard.
“I can’t take away from the players what they have achieved and we didn’t lose the last three, but certainly we weren’t at our best.
“This football club has gone through the bad times and now, hopefully, this is the start of good times.
“We did the job in the league, but we didn’t have a good cup run.
“That’s something else we will be looking to do next season.
“Everybody will have a good break and the players will report back for pre-season training, fit and ready to go, on the last Thursday in June.
“We all believe this squad, along with two or three additions, is well capable of taking us up again next season.”
Former Leeds, Swansea and Neath player Craig Stiens was Merthyr Town’s top scorer with 23 goals this season and he added: “Nobody wants to leave Merthyr.
“We’ve won the title and this squad will be sticking together.
“We are in the Premier and we’ll go for it.
“This season has been one of the most enjoyable I have experienced.”
Stiens, aged 26, is a former Wales Under-19 international who edged out Marcus Griffiths in the battle to finish top scorer for Merthyr this season.

  • Merthyr go home to celebrate great season

MERTHYR Town celebrated their title triumph back home at Penydarren Park after their final Toolstation Western League match.
Goals from Scott Armitage and top scorer Craig Stiens, with his 23rd of the season, earned the Martyrs a 2-2 draw against promotion-chasing Bridport at Rhiw Ddar, Taffs Well.
Then manager Garry Shephard and his players headed to Penydarren Park to join supporters at the club’s presentation evening.
Jon Newall, captain Steve Williams, Tareq Khalil and Stiens were the players who received awards, while Shephard has already made big progress in securing his squad for next season in the Premier Division.
“I have already made sure 90 per cent of this squad will be back next season and I am in talks with the other players,” said Shephard. “My aim is to add one or two and we are intent on earning more success in 2011-12.”
Merthyr Town will be based back at Penydarren Park next season and said goodbye to MacWhirter Welsh League Taffs Well, where they have played this season, after the draw against Bridport.
“It’s great to be going home, but we will always be grateful to Taffs Well and the help they gave us to keep our club alive when we needed it the most,” said secretary Jamie Mack. “Without that letter from Taffs Well providing us a home for the season Merthyr Town FC would not be here now.”
Merthyr players walked off at the end of the match against Bridport with ‘We are the Champions’ blaring out over the tannoy, a tribute to a season in which they have dominated Division One.
Almost 400 spectators watched the clash with Bridport, whose manager is former Reading, Middlesbrough and Portsmouth striker Trevor Senior.
Merthyr finished their season on the back of 12 unbeaten matches, winning 11 before this draw against Bridport, who opened the scoring through Russell Legg after 32 minutes. Armitage equalised soon after half-time and then Stiens put the Martyrs ahead after 80 minutes.
Less then a minute later Sam Charles eluded home defenders to fire low into the corner and complete the 2-2 scoreline.

  • FC United warn Colwyn Bay FC they’re confident of promotion

FC UNITED have warned Colwyn Bay they intend to continue their remarkable rise through football’s lower echelons by beating their hosts in today’s play-off final at Llanelian Road.
Victory today would mark a fourth promotion in six seasons for the ambitious club, formed by disenchanted supporters of Manchester United.
The club continue to astonish their rivals with attendances which outstrip some of those at Football League games.
And despite Bay having beaten the Mancunians twice in league combat this season, FC United manager Karl Marginson is confident.
He said: “Colwyn beat us twice in the league but they were close games so we have nothing to fear – especially since we beat Rochdale in the FA Cup and then did so well against Brighton.
“Dave Challinor is their manager and he’s experienced and has a big team that concentrates on set pieces with good movement up top.
“My message to the lads who are sensible about these things is to enjoy the Bank Holiday weekend and then let’s give it our best on Monday afternoon.
“We are physically strong as you would expect at this stage of the season. We have the ability to beat them and continue our remarkable progress.”
