We are holding a Book Festival in Cowbridge during May and we have arranged for more than 20 authors to appear and talk about their books or personal experiences, all proceeds will go in support of Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research.
We have two significant authors who may be of particular interest to the footballing community in our area.
Geoff Thomas, played for England nine times and captained Crystal Palace in the FA Cup 1990 against Manchester United. In 2003 Geoff was diagnosed as having Leukaemia. In 2005 after recovering from the illness he went on to ride the Tour de France, all 2240 miles in 21days, the same time as it takes the professional riders. His book, RIDING THROUGH THE STORM, looks back on his successful career as a footballer, and the bone marrow transplant that saved his life. Geoff has agreed to launch the Cowbridge Book Festival on 6th May whilst opening a Photographic display arranged by local photographers.
John Hartson, John doesn’t need any introduction to Welsh football supporters, he’s been there and done everything. His book PLEASE DON’T GO – Big John’s Journey Back to Life is an inspirational memoir of his personal battle with cancer. John has agreed to start off the actual Festival Week on 16th May by being our first speaker.
The whole event will cover the week from 16th – 22nd May. and has many interesting authors.
We have set up a website for the event our website address which is:
